What is a sleep disorder?

Sleep disorders are serious health concerns that can have a massive impact on quality of life, affecting work, relationships and mental health, and are often difficult to manage with good sleep hygiene alone.

Sleep disorders:

  • Can be invisible to others.
  • Can feel isolating due to lack of appropriate support.
  • Are often unsupported in the workplace, impacting on work.
  • Can be disabling, impairing the ability to undertake daily tasks.
  • Impact mood and energy levels.
  • Are physically exhausting.
  • Can impact on physical health.
  • May also arise due to other conditions, such as blindness, neurological issues, trauma, anxiety, M.E. / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, M.S., dementias, autism, and ADHD.

How can counselling, CBT & CBT-i help?

Counselling helps to process stress and find ways to cope with your experience.  CBT helps to adapt any cognitive or behavioural influences that may be having an impact on how you feel.  CBT for insomnia (CBT-i) is a more specialised approach to CBT, helping to regain control over insomnia.

Sleep-focused sessions help to manage your wellbeing for improved sleep, including:

  • Sleep hygiene awareness
  • Relaxing breathing techniques
  • Finding a routine
  • Maintaining positive sleep habits
  • Managing stress
  • Identifying sleep disruptors
  • Reframing negative sleep beliefs
  • Learning to love sleep again
